Choosing a size

Five sizes cover every need, from the most understated XS to the boldest XL. Each size has its own proportion, its own center-to-center, its own gesture, its own pieces of choice. This page helps you decide before you order.

The size, just right balance

A question of proportion

The size of a handle is not a detail. It shapes how the entire front reads, the balance of the piece, the everyday gesture of the hand that opens it. Too small, it disappears; too large, it overwhelms. The rule that always holds: match the mass of the handle to the mass of the piece it serves.

At Holdon, only five sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL. That’s deliberate: these formats cover every configuration without overwhelming the choice. Each size was designed as an object in its own right, with its own proportions, its own standard center-to-center, its own tactile gesture. Knobs come in XS, S, M, and L (XL is reserved for pulls). Pulls are available in S, M, L, and XL, not in XS, which remains a single-point mounting format.

The smallest size in the collection

XS, the smallest size in the collection

Our XS format is the smallest in the collection. It’s a knob, only a knob, designed to disappear into the gesture rather than draw attention. No pattern, no sculpted ornament: just a clean silhouette that owns its function without seeking the eye. Unlike our other pieces, the XS carries no lion, no scrollwork, no foliage. The shape speaks for itself, and that’s precisely where its singularity lies.

S, the small patterned handle

Our S size marks the entry point into the atelier’s ornamental world. Unlike the XS, which stays smooth and silent, the S knob welcomes a pattern: a sleeping lion, a scrollwork, a sculpted ornament. It’s a small piece, certainly, but one that carries a design, an intention, a detail worth a closer look. The discretion of its size meets the expressiveness of the decoration, and it’s precisely this contrast that gives it character.

The reference size

M, the reference size

Our M size is the heart of the collection. It’s the size our handles are designed for first, where the pattern’s proportions, material thickness, and hand feel come together most naturally. If you’re unsure, if you’re changing several handles at once, if you’re refreshing your furniture without any particular constraint, this is where to look first.

If you are looking for a standard cabinet handle, a 128 mm pull, a kitchen handle, or a well-balanced buffet knob, M is our default choice. It’s ours, too.

The bold, oversized format

L, the bold large format

Our L size is the largest available in a knob, and the most generous dimension in the collection for a pull outside of the XL. It’s the choice of statement: you don’t reach for an L handle by accident, you choose it because you want it seen, felt, counted in the composition.

For anyone seeking a large cabinet handle, a bold decorative knob, an imposing 160 mm pull, or a strong statement on a wide door front, the L is the answer.

Our XL size is reserved exclusively for pulls. It doesn’t come as a knob, and that’s intentional: at this scale, what matters is the line, the horizontal stretch, the geometric trace it draws across the front. It’s the most assertive handle in the collection, the one you choose to sign a piece, to direct a gaze, to set the rhythm of a perspective.

Choosing your size

What Size Handle for a Kitchen or a Walk-in Closet?

In the kitchen, size M (128 mm center-to-center) is the safe choice for recent door and drawer fronts; for large pot and pan drawers, move up to L (160 mm) or XL (192 mm). In a closet, XL matches the verticality of full-height doors, while M or S stay discreet on interior drawers. The general rule: match the handle's presence to the scale of the piece. When in doubt, a medium size works almost everywhere.

Sizes and Patterns

Are all finishes and patterns available in every size?

Nearly all finishes, yes. As for patterns, the more detailed ones (lions, fine scrollwork) gain clarity at size M and above: on a very small size, an intricate design reads less clearly. The exact combinations of size, pattern, and material appear at the moment of choice, on the product page. When in doubt about a sculptural pattern, go with M or a larger size.

Center-to-center spacing and drilling

Can I Order a Size with a Non-standard Center-to-center?

Yes. Most of our two-point sizes can be ordered with custom drilling, around the standard values of 96, 128, and 160 mm depending on the size. Just note the center-to-center you need in the order comments. The handle's overall length stays the same, only the screw positions shift to line up with your existing holes. It's the solution for replacing an old handle without redrilling your front.

Delivery, Customs, Payment, and Support

How Long Will It Take to Receive My Handles?

Each handle is made to order in our Paris atelier. Allow an average of 5 to 10 business days for production, plus the carrier's delivery time, which varies by address. You'll receive an email with the tracking number as soon as the shipping label is issued, generally between the 5th and 10th business day after your order.

Are Your Payment Methods Secure? What Payment Options Do You Offer?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via Stripe, as well as PayPal. Transactions run through these two international references in online payment: Holdon Paris never sees and never stores your card number, all sensitive data is transmitted encrypted to the platform. The site runs entirely on HTTPS. For large professional orders, bank transfer with a deposit is possible (see architects and professionals).

Can I Return My Order if I Don't Like It?

Yes. French law gives you 14 days from receipt to exercise your right of withdrawal, with no need to justify it. The handles must be returned in their original condition, uninstalled, and return shipping is at your expense unless the error is ours: the refund is issued within 14 days of receipt at our workshop. To start a return, write to us via contact Holdon Paris: we'll send you the address and the process. Custom and personalized pieces are not eligible for the right of withdrawal, since they are made specifically for you.
