Florentine Medallion

Collection · Classica Europa

An oval knob with the profile of a cameo: a domed field, a fine border that frames it, a curve that calls the hand. The Florentine Medallion descends from the Renaissance tondo and the medallions of paneled rooms: the noble shape of the emblem, brought down to furniture scale. Left bare, the material composes alone; ornamented, it becomes the exact setting of its pattern.

The character

Florentine Medallion

The medallion brought down to furniture scale

The Florentine Medallion was born from an ancient gesture: giving what deserves to be shown the very shape that presents it, the oval.

The medallion is the shape of what shows itself: a domed field, an outline that borders and presents. The Florentine Medallion takes up this principle and sets it on the front: an oval knob with a cameo profile, ringed by a fillet that draws its frame. Where the round knob blends into use, the medallion asks to be read: a small piece of goldsmith's work set at hand height.

The Florentine heritage

It was Florence, again, that fixed the form: the tondo of the Quattrocento, those round reliefs Andrea della Robbia glazed between the arches of the Loggia degli Innocenti, the same loggia whose columns gave the Florentine Column its shafts. Then the centuries stretched the circle into an oval: collector's cameos, portrait miniatures, medallions on paneling and overdoor panels. The oval established itself as the noble shape of the emblem, the one that elongates whatever it frames. The Florentine Medallion inherits this lineage: bare, its domed field lets material and light compose on their own; ornamented, it becomes the setting its motif had been waiting for.

One fixing point, two ways to sit

A single point knob, the Florentine Medallion mounts in one gesture, anywhere the hand passes: drawers, doors, small furniture. Its generous curve offers a full grip, with no sharp edge, and its oval gives a freedom the round shape doesn't have: set upright, it elongates the front; laid on its side, it settles it. A geometry that reads as discreet from the front and sculptural in profile, equally at home on a contemporary cabinet or a family heirloom piece.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about the silhouette Florentine Medallion

Silhouette, shape, and pattern

What's the Difference Between a Shape, a Silhouette, and a Pattern?

These three words describe three levels. Shape is the broad category: square, round, rectangle, oval, polygon, cylinder, figurative. The Florentine Medallion silhouette is a precise variation within a shape, with its own proportions and character, for example the Palazzo Square within the square shape. Pattern, in turn, sits on top of the silhouette without changing its geometry: nothing (Essential), an ornamental decoration, or a sculptural figure in relief. A single silhouette can therefore host several patterns.

What Does the Florentine Medallion Silhouette Bring, and How to Choose It?

The Florentine Medallion silhouette is the overall line of the piece, its underlying shape, even before the pattern that dresses it. It sets the general style: choose a silhouette that speaks to the piece of furniture first, then decide on the pattern to layer on top. Think of it as the skeleton of the handle, with the pattern as its ornament. If the furniture is already busy, a quiet silhouette will settle it down; if it's understated, the silhouette can afford more presence.

Finishes and Collection

Can We Order a Finish from Another Collection for a Given Silhouette?

No. The finish palette is defined collection by collection: it's part of the visual signature, just like the silhouettes and patterns. The silhouette defines the handle's geometry, but it's the collection that sets the vocabulary of finishes available. If a particular finish catches your eye, start by checking which collection it belongs to: that's likely where you'll find the handle you need.

Delivery, Customs, Payment, and Support

Yes. French law gives you 14 days from receipt to exercise your right of withdrawal, with no need to justify it.
