Florentine Column
The Florentine Column brings architecture down to the scale of the hand: a pure cylindrical shaft, held taut between two round plates, emerging from the front the way a column emerges from a wall. A center-to-center bar pull, firm to grip, sculptural to look at. In its Essential version, the cylinder stays bare and the material does the talking, brushed bronze, deep lacquer, patinated metal. It is also the shaft that the Florentine Renaissance loved to cover in scrollwork: a surface ready to receive ornament, or to go without it.
The character
A column brought down to the scale of the hand
The Florentine Column was born of a conviction: that a handle could borrow from architecture its most foundational element, the column.
Since antiquity, the column is what bears weight and what brings order. The Florentine Column takes up the shaft, that solid, taut cylinder, and lays it horizontally between two round end plates. The handle then leaves the plane of the door front to become volume: a mass the eye moves around and the hand grips fully. Where most handles are a design set onto a door, this one is a body emerging from it.
The Florentine legacy
It was in Florence, in the Quattrocento, that the classical column was reborn. Brunelleschi set it upright on the Loggia of the Innocents and in the nave of San Lorenzo: a smooth shaft, true proportions, pietra serena laying down its quiet gray. But the Renaissance didn't stop at the bare shaft. Soon, ornament makers dressed the column and pilaster in climbing scrollwork, vegetal candelabra, rosettes: the cylinder became the natural support for ornament, a surface that invites the run of decoration. The Florentine Column inherits both gestures. In its Essential version, it keeps the pure shaft, and it's the material that sculpts the light: brushed bronze, deep lacquer, patinated metal. Dressed, it offers the scrollwork and the rosette the field they've claimed for five centuries.
A horizontal presence, a confident grip
Because it stretches lengthwise, the Florentine Column rests on two fixing points: the center-to-center spacing ensures a solid hold from end to end and a grip with no hesitation, valuable on heavy fronts and furniture in heavy daily use. It underlines a large door, structures a wide drawer, sets the rhythm along a run of fronts. Its clean geometry works as well with a contemporary interior as with a classic setting, and its standard center-to-center spacing matches Ikea, Plum, Superfront, or custom fronts.

Pattern, in turn, sits on top of the silhouette without changing its geometry: nothing (Essential), an ornamental decoration, or a sculptural figure in relief. How Long Will It Take to Receive My Handles?
Each handle is made to order in our Paris atelier. Allow an average of 5 to 10 business days for production, plus the carrier's delivery time, which varies by address. You'll receive an email with the tracking number as soon as the shipping label is issued, generally between the 5th and 10th business day after your order.
Are Your Payment Methods Secure? What Payment Options Do You Offer?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via Stripe, as well as PayPal. Transactions run through these two international references in online payment: Holdon Paris never sees and never stores your card number, all sensitive data is transmitted encrypted to the platform. The site runs entirely on HTTPS. For large professional orders, bank transfer with a deposit is possible (see architects and professionals).
Can I Return My Order if I Don't Like It?
Yes. French law gives you 14 days from receipt to exercise your right of withdrawal, with no need to justify it. The handles must be returned in their original condition, uninstalled, and return shipping is at your expense unless the error is ours: the refund is issued within 14 days of receipt at our workshop. To start a return, write to us via contact Holdon Paris: we'll send you the address and the process. Custom and personalized pieces are not eligible for the right of withdrawal, since they are made specifically for you.
